Energy retrofitting strategies for office buildings in hot arid climate

Abstract The building sector consumes ~30% of the primary energy consumption. Energy retrofitting buildings contributes greatly to reducing consumption and carbon emissions. This research aims at revealing potential savings resulting from applying strategies office in hot arid climate. study is applied on Cairo, Egypt, representing case was selected be an existing with area 12 000 m2. simulation software used DesignBuilder software. suggested are upgrading lighting systems use LED lights, air conditioning performance, using external shading devices, improving AC efficiency, building’s tightness R-value envelope by insulation for exterior walls roof substituting window glazing. Those were evaluating their achieving savings. conclusion that combining most effective has resulted annual reduction 86%.
